Who Rebukes Sin?

Q. What does the Bible say about rebuking sin?  Who is to do this and under what conditions?

A. The Bible explains that we all are responsible to look out for one another and help one another.  God asked Cain "where is your brother?" and He asks us the same question.  We are to be interested in the salvation of others and as such, seek to restore and build up in the faith.  It is out of love that we go to our brother or sister, not in a spirit of criticism or accusing, for it may be that at some time we may need to be rebuked and we must think of the spirit of love that we would want shown to us.  Here are some Bible texts that give more instruction on this topic.

Matthew 18:15-17 Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.  But if he will not hear [thee, then] take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.  And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell [it] unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as a heathen man and a publican.

1 Timothy 5:20 Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:  That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

Titus 2:11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.

Galations 6:1 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.
