How do you use a cabbage compress?

First, peel off cabbage leaves large enough to cover the area intended a couple of leaves thick. You will need to pound those leaves to break down the fibers and cells. Some people put them on a cutting board and use the non-sharp side of a knife to break them down. You want the cabbage leaf limp and oozing its juice. It doesn't have a lot of juice, so don't expect much, but this is a necessary step.

The rest is very simple. Place the cabbage leaves where intended on the body. Many let the body heat do the work, without making a hot compress, but if you want a hot compress, then place on top of the the cabbage leaves a towel that has been wet with hot water and wrung out. You may need to pin the wet towel to keep it in place. Once the towrl is in place, wrap the area with plastic wrap to keep the moisture in and then wrap the area with another towel to keep the heat in. Leave on overnight, or as long as possible during the day.
